This is a sweet and endearing book about a very special white polka dot elephant with a big heart. It was little Ms Sunshine’s favourite book over the September holidays. ☺ Everyday she asked for this book to be repeated… ‘Mummy, can you read me Elliot book?’ ☺
Elliot the elephant’s story is told from a child’s perspective… which is just perfect for a children’s book. 🙂
Elliot lives in New York City. Not Manhattan as many assumed… Mike Curato confirmed he lives in Brooklyn and commutes to Manhattan for his treat! Yes, this white elephant has a sweet tooth and his favourite is cupcakes!
Isn’t the illustration gorgeous? I love the nostalgic feel Mike Curato has given this book… look at the cars, the setting and the people. Something warm and romantic about it 🙂 Very often, I fall in love with the book because of its Illustrations. Afterall, it is a picture book! And I hope my kids will appreciate the beautiful artwork/drawings as they expose themselves to many different styles. Illustrations really make or break a children’s picture book for me.
It is not easy being small. Sometimes you are ignored, sometimes you are invisible and sometimes everything just seems beyond your reach! Elliot heads out to the Big City one day to buy himself a yummy treat but oh dear… he does not have an easy time. When he finally does make it to the cupcake shop, he is unable to get the baker’s attention because of his small size. How disappointing!
This is Sunshine’s favourite part. She will scream ‘A mouse! … smaller than Elliot needs help!’ Yes indeed… a disappointed Elliot (he could not get his cupcake) chances upon a little mouse, much smaller than he, who seems to be struggling with the same things as Little Elliot. Kind Elliot helps the mouse… who in turn will find an opportunity to repay that kindness… and tada~ a beautiful partnership and friendship is born.
Such a sweet story this is, not to mention the adorable illustrations. Is this a Buy or Borrow? It’s a buy for me! We love Elliot so much, this mummy even ordered an ‘Elliot’ doll for Sunshine.😀 If you and your child enjoyed this book, do check out the activity kit that’s available too. Perfect way to extend the fun. Here is the link.
Mike Curato’s second Elliot book will be out next month, so look out for that one too!
